Candidates who brought a famous wife, child or other relative with them on the stump were not always guaranteed a win in Wednesday's general elections.
For some it went well. Actress Shim Eun-ha's husband Ji Sang-wook won his seat for the Saenuri Party in Seoul's Jung district. Shim cast her ballot alongside her husband and stood by him at a party office in central Seoul as the votes were being counted, and he duly thanked her for her support.

Actress Lee Young-ae canvassed for Saenuri candidate Chung Jin-seok, who won in South Chungcheong Province for the fourth time. Chung is the uncle of Lee's husband.

Minjoo Party lawmaker Moon Hee-sang got a campaign boost from his niece, former Miss Korea and actress Lee Honey, who had also gone on the stump with him in the 2008 and 2012 general elections.

But ex-KBS presenter Kim Kyung-ran's husband Kim Sang-min, who ran for Saenuri, lost to his rival in Suwon although she went along to her husband's rallies. And Saenuri Party lawmaker Kim Eul-dong, whose son is actor Song Il-gook, lost her seat.
