The turnout for early voting for Wednesday's general elections was a record 12.2 percent.
The National Election Commission said Sunday that over 5.1 million out of some 42.1 million eligible voters cast their ballot in advance on Friday and Saturday.
The figure is 0.7 percentage point higher than the 11.5 percent in the regional elections in 2014, when early voting was first introduced on a nationwide basis.
Early voting started with smaller scale elections -- the by-elections in the first half of 2013 -- and has since taken place seven times.
Turnout in early voting has steadily increased, and based on turnout this time the NEC predicts overall turnout to be just under 60 percent. Turnout in the last general elections in 2012 was 54.2 percent.
