Security checks were stepped up at all 15 airports nationwide on Tuesday as the government raised the terror alert level by one notch.

Passengers need to arrive at airports much earlier than usual, according to the Korea Airports Corporation.

The airports increased their consigned baggage check rate from zero percent to 20 percent. Frisking also rose from 10 percent of all passengers to 20 percent.

All departing passengers must take off their overcoats and shoes at checkpoints.

The terror alert level consists of four tiers, and the current level is the second lowest.
