Women in their 30s are the most vulnerable to voice phishing scams, while men in their 40s were the most common targets of loan fraud.

The Financial Supervisory Service on Thursday revealed analysis of financial fraud which found that 44,445 cases were reported from January to August of this year, involving a total of W194.6 billion (US$1=W1,177).

The figure included W120.2 billion from voice phishing and W74.4 billion from loan scams.

Looking at the age groups of voice phishing victims, women in their 30s accounted for 20 percent, making up the largest group. When it comes to loan fraud, men in their 40s accounted for 18 percent of victims, also the largest group.

An FSS official said, "Women in their 30s have stable incomes but appear to be falling for voice phishing scams as they buckle under pressure due to their lack of experience and financial expertise. Men in their 40s on the other hand seem to be easy targets for loan scammers because they need to pay for household expenses and are easily enticed by low-interest loans."
