Chuseok or Korean thanksgiving is less than two weeks away and gift sales at major retailers are already in full swing.
Dried fish is a go-to gift item for the holiday, but lobster is emerging as a popular gift item this year.
E-Mart, one of the major supermarket chains, said it saw its lobster sales double, compared to last year. It added that annual sales of lobster, king crab and snow crab spiked by a combined 40 percent between 2012 and last year.
The sudden increase in sales means lobster could replace dried yellow corvine soon, which has been traditionally one of the most popular gift items for Chuseok.
