The UN special rapporteur on North Korean human rights, Marzuki Darusman, arrived in Seoul on Sunday.
Darusman will stay in South Korea until Thursday to review inter-Korean relations and the human rights situation in the North, according to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
He is going to interview officials at the foreign and unification ministries and activists campaigning against rights abuses in the North.
It is Darusman's fifth visit to Seoul and the first since the UN opened a field office here in June to investigate human rights abuses in the North.
Since his inauguration in 2010, Darusman has asked several times to visit the North, but the regime refused every time.
