Indonesia has invited both President Park Geun-hye and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to the 60th anniversary of the Afro-Asian Conference, also known as Bandung Conference, in April, a government source here said Sunday.
One incentive for Kim would be that his grandfather Kim Il-sung delivered a speech at a 10th anniversary event in 1965 and his father Kim Jong-il accompanied him.
But the government here was noncommittal on whether Park will attend. "It's possible that her schedules overlap," a government official said.
Park is still unsure whether to accept an invite to the 70th anniversary celebration of the Soviet Union's World War II victory in Moscow in May, to which Russia has also invited the leaders of both Koreas.
Russia is in the diplomatic doghouse over the Ukrainian conflict, and pundits say the mere chance of a meeting with Kim in Moscow would not be worth breaking rank with the U.S. for.
