Chinese Patient Falls into Coma During Plastic Surgery

A Chinese woman who was receiving plastic surgery at a clinic in Gangnam fell into a coma last week and was rushed to Samsung Medical Center. The woman underwent six hours of cosmetic rocedures including double eye-lid surgery and a fat graft.

Doctors at the center gave her emergency treatment but she did not regain consciousness. A staffer at the medical center said a Chinese woman was rushed to the hospital after plastic surgery but declined to give details citing patient confidentiality.

A spokesman for the Korean Association of Plastic Surgeons said there are many unauthorized clinics and facilities set up by individuals with no medical knowledge who hire freelance physicians and attract patients through brokers in China. He added such practices should be banned under Korean law.
