An institute dedicated to promoting Korea's easternmost islets of Dokdo has been established in New York. It is a branch of a patriotic educational facility founded last year by Seo Kyoung-duk at the Independence Hall of Korea in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.
The new institute will start offering classes on Oct. 25.
Seo has joined hands with Korean American Heritage Foundation to operate it. The foundation runs Korean classes in New York schools, and its teaching staff will be in charge of the education on the Korean islets at the facility.
Seo plans to give special lectures there himself on an irregular basis.
A fried-chicken franchise has provided sponsorship.
Dokdo is profoundly important to some Korean patriots because Japan keeps lodging a flimsy claim to it that dates back to the colonial era.
Seo hopes to open more such facilities in Tokyo and Shanghai and elsewhere.
