The South Korean military is worried that North Korea may be developing missiles that could be fired from submarines, according to information from the Joint Chiefs of Staff published by New Politics Alliance for Democracy lawmaker Jin Sung-joon of the National Assembly Defense Committee on Sunday.
Military authorities are guessing that the North is remodeling either Russian-made Kh-35 anti-ship missiles with a range of 130 km or the Chinese-made C-802 anti-ship missiles for submarines.
The Kh-35 missile was publicly shown in a North Korean propaganda film released in June. It is hard to intercept because it flies at a low altitude of 4-15 m above the surface of the water.
