Korea's exports last month were the second highest ever, while shipments to Japan shifted to growth mode for the first time in 14 months.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Tuesday said exports rose 5.2 percent in March from the same period last year to $49.8 billion.

This resulted in a $4.19 billion trade surplus.

The previous monthly record was set in October last year.
