Short track skater Viktor Ahn was named the top-performing athlete at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics by NBC after he earned three gold medals for the host country. The U.S. media outlet released a list of the 14 most successful athletes after the Winter Games wrapped up on Sunday.

Born Ahn Hyun-soo in Korea, Ahn became a naturalized Russian in 2011 and brought his adopted country its first-ever Olympic short track gold medal in Sochi. He earned gold medals in the 500 m, 1,000 m and 5,000-m relay, as well as a bronze in the 1,500 m to shore up Russia's trophy haul.

Eight years earlier in Turin, he won three gold medals in the sport for Korea.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal posted a poem on its website in honor of figure skater Kim Yu-na as part of the Olympic Poetry series by Guggenheim fellowship-winning poet Kwame Dawes.

He "wrote verses to capture the spirit of each day's action" and chose the silver medalist as the subject of the last installment in the series.

There is no fixed tradition of officially naming a single MVP at the Olympics.
