Alarmed customer continue to cancel their credit cards after a massive data leak from three credit-card companies, despite government assurances that their information is now safe.
As of 6 p.m. on Thursday, 1.74 million credit card cancellation requests were submitted to Kookmin, Lotte, and Nonghyup. Another 2.18 million requested new cards.

The three companies are dealing with more than 1 million cancellation or re-issue requests per day.
On Tuesday, the firms started to inform individual customers by e-mail or post of whether their personal data were leaked or not. This is likely to spur more requests from people who had somehow missed the news.
