Samsung mobile business chief Shin Jong-kyun and Apple CEO Tim Cook plan to meet and negotiate a possible settlement of their global patent suits and counter-suits. The two sides are looking for an amicable settlement ahead of the second round of a U.S. trial around March or April.
Samsung said the company submitted a "proposal for settlement discussions" to the Northern District Court of California on Jan. 8 as ordered by the court.
Earlier, Samsung and Apple staff met on Jan. 6 to discuss their proposals. They agreed to meet again before Jan. 19 to discuss a possible settlement.
But it is unclear whether a settlement can be reached due to the substantial differences that remain between the two sides. The CEOs of both companies plan to attend the settlement discussions.
