Hyundai's new Genesis is taking the domestic premium sedan market by storm. Since its release on Nov. 27, sales have averaged 250 to 300 units a day, the automaker said on Sunday, with the total already exceeding 11,000 as of Friday.
In comparison, the first-generation Genesis sold around 3,000 units in the first 15 days of its release when it came out in late 2007.
The new Genesis' brisk performance is attributed partly to Hyundai's all-wheel-drive system dubbed HTRAC. Over 70 percent of its buyers have opted to have the system installed due to heavy snow in recent years, despite having to pay an additional W2.5 million (US$1=W1,054).
