Toyota to Add FJ Cruiser SUV to Korea Line-up

Toyota will start selling its FJ Cruiser off-road SUV in Korea next month following a launch event on Dec. 24, the automaker said on Tuesday.

Equipped with a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine, the model has picked up a solid fan base since it was released in the U.S. in 2006 thanks to its retro look and strong performance. But the carmaker plans to discontinue the model in North America due to declining sales.

The model to be sold in the Korean market will be manufactured in Japan, it added. This will increase the number of Toyota models available in the country to 10.

"We decided to limit sales [of the FJ Cruiser] here in order to promote the full range of Toyota models besides the Camry and Prius" said a spokesperson for the automaker.
