A new trial to determine how much Samsung Electronics should pay Apple for copying its designs will begin this week.
In a landmark verdict in August last year the Northern District Court of California ruled that Samsung should pay US$1.05 billion to Apple for infringing on a series of its patents. But it later voided about $450 million of the original award, saying it was unclear how the jury calculated the figure.
Samsung lodged an appeal, claiming there were problems in the jury's findings and in calculating the compensation. Apple also appealed, saying the compensation was insufficient.
Now a new jury will get to recalculate the scope of the damages starting this week. A decision is expected later this month.
