U.S. Defense Chief in Seoul for Security Talks

    U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel arrived in Seoul on Saturday for talks with his Korean counterpart Kim Kwan-jin and other top officials.

    In the 45th Security Consultative Meeting on Wednesday, the two sides are expected to focus on the planned transfer of full operational control of Korean troops to Seoul, which is currently slated for 2015 but which Seoul wants delayed.

    The two defense chiefs last discussed the matter in Brunei a month ago but failed to reach a compromise.

    The two sides will also assess the situation in North Korea, and come up with a customized joint strategy against Pyongyang's nuclear threat.
