Kim Jong-un Chairs Military Policy Meeting

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Monday chaired a meeting of the Workers Party's powerful Central Military Commission, the official [North] Korean Central News Agency reported.

The young leader, who is believed to be trying to bring the renegade country's unruly army to heel, "made an important decision that would serve as a guideline for firmly protecting the sovereignty and security of the country and promoting the cause of the songun [military-first dictrine] revolution of the party," KCNA said.

It did not say what the "important decision" was. It would be tempting to dismiss the phrase as empty verbiage, but soon after the last time the North Korean media said an "important decision" was made at the Central Military Commission in early February, the North conducted its third nuclear test.

However, pundits believe that no provocation is likely to follow Monday's important decision since the mood on the peninsula is mostly conciliatory, with the two Koreas agreeing to reopen the Kaesong Industrial Complex and reunite families separated by the Korean War.

A government official here said, "We don't think the North is going to launch a fresh provocation like a nuclear test." He added no unusual movements have been spotted.

In a speech last week marking the 53rd anniversary of the military-first doctrine, Kim stressed the importance of party guidance for the military.
