A Seoul district court on Wednesday sentenced TV personality Go Young-wook to five years behind bars for having sex with minors and ordered him to be electronically tagged for 10 years.

Go will be the first Korean TV personality to be electronically tagged as a sex offender. His whereabouts and personal details are also to be made available on a government website that lists sex offender.

Convicts who are electronically tagged cannot go near children's facilities and are barred from leaving their homes at night and drinking heavily.

The court said Go had used his celebrity status to commit sex crimes on vulnerable minors and berated him for refusing to admit his wrongdoings.

It found Go guilty of molesting a 13-year-old girl in December last year, raping another 13-year-old girl in 2010 and molesting a 17-year-old girl in the same year.

Prosecutors had demanded a seven-year sentence. Go's lawyer said he would discuss with his client whether to appeal.
