Big Business to Cut Recruitment

Conglomerates seem likely to reduce hiring of new college graduates in the first half of this year -- directly contradicting President Park Geun-hye's goal of increasing employment.

Some 20 of the nation's largest companies told Job Korea, a job portal site, on Tuesday that they will hire 15,750 people combined, a 0.7 percent decrease from the same period last year.

Samsung Group said it plans to hire about 4,500 new recruits, about the same as last year, while LG Group indicated the possibility of a slight increase from last year's 3,000. Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group will also recruit about the same number as last year or increase slightly.
