Dual-income earners accounted for 43.5 percent of all married households as of June this year, Statics Korea said Wednesday. Of 11.72 million married couples, 5.1 million both worked outside the home.

Single-income homes accounted for only 42 percent all married homes and economically inactive households for 14.5 percent.

Statics Korea started tracking the number of double-income families based on quarterly surveys on regional employment last year, when they accounted for 43.6 percent.

The proportion of dual-income couples was largest among married households in their 40s with 52.1 percent, followed by 50-somethings (49.8 percent) and those in their 30s (41.1 percent).

By industrial sector, the proportion was the highest at 81.8 percent in farming, fisheries and forestry.
