The proportion of women passing the bar exam hit a record this year. The Justice Ministry on Wednesday said out of 506 people who passed this year's bar exam, 41.7 percent were women.
That was 4.4 percentage points more than in 2011. In 2010, women accounted for 41.5 percent.
The average age of candidates who passed this year's bar exam was 27.65, slightly younger than last year (28.76). Law majors accounted for 85 percent, while only 15 percent specialized in other fields.
The Justice Ministry will choose only 300 new attorneys through the bar exam next year as part of steps to gradually reduce the number of attorneys selected through state-administered exams to make room for more law-school graduates.
