Some 3,400 Fakes Found in Seoul's Shopping Mecca

      Seoul's Jung-gu District Office said on Monday that after a major crackdown on vendors in the shopping Mecca of Myeong-dong from July 16 to Aug. 12, it confiscated 3,434 fake luxury items worth a total of W1.7 billion.

      It reported 28 sellers and six part-time workers hired by them to the police.

      The most heavily counterfeited brand was Louis Vuitton, with 1,424 knockoffs out of 3,434, taking up 41 percent of the total seized. Chanel was next with 933 fake goods found, followed by Gucci (187), Burberry (141), and Adidas (94).

      Among the confiscated items, mobile phone accessories topped the list with 699 items making up one-fifth of the total. Fake designer socks (544 pairs) accounted for 16 percent, followed by belts (356), clothing and accessories for pet dogs (328 items), key chains (317), hair accessories (248) and earrings (203 pairs).
