Seoul City Cracks Down on Fake Luxury Goods

      The Seoul city government has carried out a crackdown on fake luxury goods in some 200 clothes and accessories shops in the Express Bus Terminal Station, it said Sunday. The trawl netted some 148 items in 23 shops.

      Clothes made up the bulk of the items seized with 84, followed by 17 necklaces, 12 hair accessories, 10 bags, and seven pairs of earrings. Chanel was most frequently forged brand with 29 items. Louis Vuitton came next with 22, Paul Frank with 16, Tory Birch and Evisu both with 11, and the lesser-known label J.Estina with eight. The total price of the fakes would have been W135 million (US$1=W1,138) if genuine.

      In a bigger crackdown on fake label goods from April to June, 1,833 items were seized in 206 shops, and Chanel was again the most popularly brand with 20.79 percent, followed by MLB and Louis Vuitton with 10 and 8.4 percent.
