Korea's first icebreaker, the Araon, is on a mission to help save a Russian boat trapped in the Antarctic.
The 500-ton fishing boat had its hull punctured as a result of a collision with an iceberg. The ship, carrying 30 crew members, is reportedly slowly sinking.
The Araon was anchored at New Zealand's second-largest city of Christchurch and was originally schedule to sail back home to Korea.
Although it will take around eight days for the Araon to cover the 3,000 km to the Russian ship, the crew decided to take action as it is the closest icebreaker to the distressed boat.
