President Lee Myung-bak is to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress during his state visit to Washington this week.
House Speaker John Boehner announced in a statement last Friday that the U.S. formally invited Lee to deliver a speech in Congress this Thursday.
He said Korea is a strong ally and partner in promoting democracy, advancing economic freedom and combating nuclear proliferation and that it would be an honor to have Lee address Congress.
Lee is scheduled to arrive in Washington on Tuesday for a four-day visit.
