The Foreign Ministry on Monday issued three-level travel warnings for Japan after the island country was devastated by a massive earthquake and tsunami on Friday.
In the first-level advisory, travelers to Tokyo and Chiba prefectures are advised to be cautious, while the second-level alert warns against traveling to the five northeastern prefectures -- Aomori, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Iwate, and Miyagi -- which suffered severe damage and loss of lives.
The firmest warning applies to a 30 km radius of the Fukushima nuclear power plant, which experienced a core meltdown.
