Planning to impress your lover with a kiss on Valentine's Day? Your inspiration may be found in Thailand's resort of Pattaya, where 14 couples are competing to break the world's record for the longest kiss.

The current record for the longest kiss is 32 hours, seven minutes and 14 seconds, set in Germany last year. The couple who can lock lips for the longest time beyond the current record will enter the Guinness Book of Records.

This contest began in Pattaya on Sunday and will continue into Valentine's Day. The two must lock lips at all times, and cannot sit, sleep or leave the venue, or they will be disqualified.

One couple quit after a half-hour into the competition because the lady fainted. Some gave up after a few hours.
