Korea's five automakers sold a combined 6.84 million cars at home and abroad last year, the industry said Monday. Except for Ssangyong Motor, currently under court receivership, all posted record business results in 2010.
Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group's sales surged 23.7 percent compared to 2009 to 5.74 million in 2010.
GM Daewoo's sales jumped 29.9 percent to 751,453, and Renault-Samsung's 43 percent to 271,481.
Ssangyong achieved growth of 130 percent, selling 80,215 cars.
The Hyundai Sonata was the best-selling vehicle in the domestic market with sales of 152,032, including 16,288 of the previous model.
