Korean youngsters are prouder of their country than their Japanese counterpart but not as proud as Chinese and Americans, a straw poll suggests.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs commissioned Dongseo Research to poll 600 elementary, middle and high school students from each country between Sept. 1 and Oct. 7. China scored 84.2 points, the U.S. 70.6, Korea 62.9, and Japan 55.3.

      Students were given choices on a five-point scale scoring 100, 75, 50, 25 and 0 points.

Asked whether they are willing to fight for their country in a war, Chinese youngsters averaged 74.8 points and Koreans 56.3, Americans 49.7 and Japanese 29.3.

Asked whether they would accept immigrants as neighbors, fellow citizens or friends, Korean youngsters averaged a tolerant 71.3 points, Chinese 69.8, Americans 64.6 and Japanese 61.7.
