Military personnel found 30 more North Korean boxed mines in Ganghwa, Incheon, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said Monday -- 29 on Gyodong Island and the other on Boleum Island. That brings to 66 the total of mines found in the South since last Friday that had apparently been washed downriver in recent floods there.
A JCS officer said 993 personnel were mobilized to search for mines in 60 areas, including Ganghwa and nearby islands and branches of the Imjin River. Of those found Monday, six boxes were empty.
One man died and another was injured Saturday when a boxed mine detonated in the upper reaches of the Imjin River. Soldiers found another 12 on Saturday and 23 on Sunday. The search continues.
