Samsung Captures Over 40% of U.S. High-End TV Markets

      Samsung Electronics has become the leading premium flat-panel TV maker in the U.S. in the first half of the year with market shares of more than 40 percent in terms of sales in four flat-panel TV segments, according to market researcher NPD Group.

      Samsung secured 46 percent in the 40-inch and larger LCD TV segment, widening its lead over its nearest competitor to 25.9 points from 17.2 points during the same period last year.

      It also led the full-HD LCD TV and 120-240 Hz LCD TV segments with shares of 43 and 49.2 percent, respectively.

      The Korean electronics giant seized the top spot in the 50-inch and larger PDP TV segment for the first time with 43 percent.

      Samsung said the strong performance is due to the fact that sales of 3D TVs are booming in the U.S.
