Koreans taking vocational courses in Australia could be heading back home soon as the Australian government plans to toughen immigration policies.

Hoping to put an end to permanent residency for foreigners who have completed simple vocational courses, Australia's Immigration Ministry released a shortened list of occupations that are welcomed to settle in the country.

It says the measure will attract more highly skilled professionals. The government will still approve certain occupations including teachers, nurses and engineers.

But the new list contains only half the 400 jobs of the old list. It goes into effect in July.
