The number of foreigners who make a beeline for Korea for expensive plastic surgery is growing.
In the past, most combined tourism with simple, low-priced operations like eyelid surgery or Botox injections, but now many come for the express purpose of more elaborate plastic surgery, spending up to W10 million (US$1=W1,160) on a combination of procedures.
The biggest draw is procedures developed by Korean surgeons, such as facial bone correction and autologous fat graft. Seoul has also become a destination for transgender people from the West as male-to-female voice change or phonoplasty was developed by a local nose, ear and throat clinic in 2007.
