A French court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a Korean civic group requesting the return of royal Korean books that French colonists looted during their 1866 invasion of Korea.
According to the group Cultural Action, the French court ruled that the books are national assets legally owned by France regardless of its means of acquisition since the books are the property of the French National Library.
The group said it may appeal the ruling and added that the Korean government must step up its efforts to retrieve the country's lost treasures.
