'Avatar' Tops $1 Billion in Worldwide Sales

      James Cameron's "Avatar" has become the world's fourth highest grossing movie in history, yielding more than US$1 billion at cinemas around the globe, according to 20th Century Fox Korea.

      "Avatar has topped the box office for three straight weeks and earned more than $1.02 billion in sales across the world," a spokesman for the film distributor said Monday. "In Korea, the epic motion picture has drawn 6.5 million viewers in only three weeks since its launch."

      The current box-office record holder is "Titanic" ($1.8 billion), followed by "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" ($1.12 billion), and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" ($1.07 billion).
