An Byeong-hun, the only son of 1988 Seoul Olympic Games medalists in table tennis An Jae-hyung and Jiao Zhimin, claimed the title at the 109th U.S. Amateur Golf Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Monday.

An, who turns 18 on Sept. 17, became the youngest champion in the event's history, breaking the record set by Korean-New Zealander Danny Lee who won last year at the age of 18 years and one month.

At five holes remaining in the 36-hole match play final, An was already seven holes ahead of opponent Ben Martin. An also became the first of Asian nationality to win the Championship.

"Watching Yang Yong-eun beat Tiger Woods in the PGA Championship boosted my confidence," An said.
