Classified documents related to a 1965 Korea-Japan treaty were disclosed to the Korean public for the first time Monday.
The latest disclosure came as South Korean citizens, many of whom were forcefully conscripted into military service or suffered from other atrocities by Japanese soldiers, requested the release of the 1,200-page document.
The disclosure of the documents is also expected to shed light on allegations that Seoul diverted a large sum of reparation money it received from Japan on behalf of the victims, instead of a Japanese proposal for individual compensation.
