Attorney Choi Jung-whan on behalf of singer Baek Ji-young called Tuesday for the criminal prosecution of people who circulated via the internet, a recording of the popular female stars making love with her lover. The Seoul District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had launched an investigation into the case.

In a petition presented to the prosecution, Baek argued she was severely hurt both mentally and physically, let alone having her image tarnished due to the dissemination of the recording.

Along with her petition, she submitted documents on six to seven web sites, including an American one which posted her picture on the internet first. Accordingly, the prosecution is making efforts to find out the whereabouts of the person who is known to run the American web site.

One official of the prosecution said "it would proceed the investigation rapidly in order to minimize social side effects and the victim's suffering as this incident triggers a great controversy in the society as well as hurting Baek."

With regard to Baek's case, the civic group Womenlink issued a statement saying "a singer is on the verge of social ostracism, suddenly branded as a porn actress. This is violence and terror against a woman." Womenlink went on to say "as long as women are targeted as an object of commercialization, there will be more victims like Baek. Therefore, those who disseminated the video should be harshly punished."
