Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur scored both a goal and an own goal within seconds of each other in an away match against Manchester City on Sunday.Son scored an opening goal in the sixth minute, but less than three minutes later a Man City free kick deflected off him and into his own net. Luckily he was able to redeem himself in the 69th minute by assisting a goal by Giovani Lo Celso.The match ended 3-3. Son was nonetheless voted Man of the Match for the fifth time this season.With 137 seconds between his opening goal and own goal he broke the previous record of 167 seconds set by Jonny Evans of Manchester United in a match against Newcastle United in December 2012.
Sports analytics company Opta said Son "is only the second player in [English] Premier League history to score a goal and own goal in the opening 10 minutes of a match, after Gareth Barry for Aston Villa versus Charlton in May 1999."He also became the fifth player in the EPL to score a goal, an assist and an own goal in the same match. Son said it was his first own goal in his career. "That's football. Sometimes it happens. I tried to do the best for the team," he said.Ending a streak of three consecutive losses, Tottenham moved up to fifth place on the EPL table with 27 points, edging out Newcastle United with 26 points.
