The Air Force has selected Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer's C-390 Millennium as its new transport airplane, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration said Monday. The Air Force has a budget of W710 billion to purchase an unspecified number of C-390 transport planes until 2026 (US$1=W1,304). In a 2010 bid it chose Lockheed Martin's C-130J and bought four of the aircraft, but this time Embraer beat Lockheed Martin as well as Airbus' A400M.

"We chose the C-390 because there was little difference in cost and functionality, while the terms offered by Embraer were significantly better," a DAPA spokesman said. Three Korean suppliers were part of the Embraer bid and their components alone are worth US$135 million. But for its main fighter jet Korea is sticking with the Lockheed Martin F-35A and will buy 20 more by 2028 on top of the 40 it already has.
