Korea Seeks to Mend Fences with China

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will attend the opening ceremony of the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China on Saturday. "I would be happy to take it as a signal that Seoul's relationship with China is progressing well," Han told reporters Tuesday.The foreign ministers of South Korea, China, and Japan will also meet in Seoul next week, the Foreign Ministry here said. The regular trilateral meeting has been suspended since 2020.President Yoon Suk-yeol said during the G20 meeting earlier this month that he hopes to meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang again by the end of the year.In the midst of these developments, the government expressed serious concerns about weapons trade between North Korea and Russia and summoned Russian Ambassador Andrey Kulik the same day.Deputy Foreign Minister Chang Ho-jin told Kulik, "Please abide by the UN Security Council resolutions" regarding weapons deals with North Korea.
