The Ministry of Justice in cooperation with the National Police Agency begins a nationwide crackdown on neglected vehicles and illegally modified cars on Thursday. Vehicles of interest include those parked unattended for a prolonged period of time, cars that have been modified without a permit, and cars that have not had regular maintenance check-ups.
The crackdown will last for a month. Owners of illegally modified cars could get a year in prison or a fine of up to W3 million (US$1=W1,326). Businesses responsible for installing the modifications will also be penalized. According to the police, last year's crackdown found some 50,000 neglected cars and 23,000 unregistered vehicles.
