The government of Gyeonggi Province announced Tuesday that it plans to open an underground express train service by 2016 linking dormitory towns near Seoul.
Making up the Great Train Express or GTX, the three railways include a 75 km route that connects Goyang City and Dongtan New City, and an express line that will link passengers from Uijongbu to Gunpo. The new transit project is expected to cost close to W14 trillion (US$1=W1,326). Officials say the system will reduce daily traffic by an estimated 880,000 cars.
