The number of international visitors to Korea during the first three months of this year has surpassed the previous quarterly record.
The Justice Ministry says between January and March of 2009, more than 2 million foreigners visited Korea, a 26-percent jump from the same period last year. By nationality, the number of Japanese visitors rose 61 percent while arrivals from Hong Kong grew 38 percent. Officials attribute the trend to the weak won, especially against the Japanese yen.
