Michelle Wie Pulls Out of Pro-Am Event
Michelle Wie
Michelle Wie withdrew from the Pro-Am event at the Lotte Sky Hill Jeju Country Club on Tuesday, a day before the opening of the KLPGA Lotte Mart Ladies' Open. Wie asked to be accompanied by her own caddie to the Pro-Am event, but the KLPGA refused citing regulations.

The KLPGA banned golfers' own caddies in 2006 saying some professional players showed disregard for the amateur golfers in the same group, talking only to their caddies, and focused on gathering information on the golf course for the impending competition.

"We understand the KLPGA but asked them to allow Wie to be accompanied by her caddie because she did not have enough time to work with him," a spokesman for the golfer said. Instead of participating in the Pro-Am, Wie practiced alone at the driving range on Tuesday.

The Lotte Mart Open starts Wednesday and runs for three days, with 108 golfers competing. Other Korean golfers playing in the LPGA Tour such as Hong Jin-joo and Ji Eun-hee are making an overdue comeback to the Korean competition.

Total prize money is W300 million, with the winner taking W60 million (US$1=W1,326).
