Yoon Suk-hwa Is Back in Heartwarming Play

Yoon Suk-hwa, one of Korea's foremost dramatic actresses, had high praise for the new play she appears in at a press conference Monday. "I haven't come across a more heartwarming and easier-to-perform play during my 35-year career as an actress," she said of "Old Fashion Comedy." "This is a fairy tale for adults."

The play, by Russian writer Aleksei Arbuzov, gently portrays love between middle-aged couples. Yoon, who is in her early 50s in the play, said, "I feel comfortable playing a woman my own age." And she added, "Love knows no age."

The two-hander was translated by her partner on stage Chung Myung-chul. "As I read the original of the play at a bookstore in London, I thought Yoon is the only option to play the lead," Chung said.

Yoon said when she found herself swept up in a widespread scandal over fake educational credentials, Chung flew to Hong Kong and gave her the script. "I really appreciated it," she said.

Yoon also sings and dances in the play. "'Old Fashion Comedy' is lyrical, so middle-aged viewers will find comfort in it," says Yoon.
