Asbestos has been found in baby powder used to prevent rashes. The Korea Food and Drug Administration is examining 30 different baby powder products manufactured by 14 companies, and so far up to 40 percent have been found to contain asbestos.
Experts say asbestos is naturally contained in talcum powder, the main ingredient of baby powders, and the small amount found in the baby powder is not harmful. But some 12 products made by eight firms will be taken off the shelves and the agency plans to revise the standard to enforce removal of asbestos from baby powders.
