Hyundai Merchant Marine said Wednesday that it will start a service that provides consignors with the location of their cargo in real time via text messages, a first in the shipping industry.
The company built a partnership with its IT subsidiary, Hyundai U&I, and developed a system that sends text messages about the entire process, from when the container is loaded on the ship until delivery to the importer.
A Hyundai executive said, ˇ°We provided the information on the location of cargo via e-mail and fax or over the phone when customers called, so it took a lot of time, but we believe that the owner of goods will find the real-time text message service far more comfortable to use.ˇ±
